RELATIVE PRONOUS



Quando são usados?



Os relative pronouns são aqueles pronomes usados quando queremos identificar alguém ou obter maiores informações sobre alguma coisa. São palavras referidas a termos que já foram mencionados anteriormente na oração, ou seja, são utilizados quando queremos fazer perguntas, questionamentos, identificar alguém ou adicionar em uma oração, informações que complementem a oração anterior.





Tipos de pronomes :



WHO (quem,que): É aplicado quando queremos nos referir a um sujeito (pessoas).



Ex: The man who lives on your floor wants to talk to you

( O homem que mora no seu andar quer falar com você. )



The man who lives on the corner is my uncle.

(O homem que mora na esquina é meu tio.)



Note que se você retirar o pronome a frase fica sem sentido,certo?



Mr. Smith, who is american, is my boss.

(O sr. Smtih, que é americano, é meu patrão.)



WHOM (que, quem): Parecido ao “who”, porém é utilizado para se referir ao objeto direto (pessoas) ou como complemento de uma preposição.



Ex: The policeman whom Robert saw yesterday is my uncle

( O policial que Robert viu ontem é meu tio.)



OBS : Contudo prefiro utilizar o "Who", pois é mais compreensível , sendo assim mais fácil de ser aplicar em uma frase.



WHICH (que) : Ele se refere-se tanto ao sujeito quanto ao objeto, mas só é utilizado quando queremos nos referir a coisas / animais e nunca para pessoas como vimos anteriormente com who e whom.



Ex: Where is the dog which I saw a minute ago?

(Onde esta o cachorro que vi ha um minuto atrás?)



The plate which is on the table is mine.

(O prato que está em cima da mesa é meu)



WHOSE (cujo,cujos,cuja,cujas) : Pode se referir a tudo: pessoas, animais ou coisas,mas o seu detalhe é que sua forma indica posse.



Ex: Do you know the boy whose father is dead?

(Você conhece o garoto cujo pai está morto? )



Julia, whose car was stolen yesterday, is my aunt.

(Julia, cujo carro foi roubado ontem, é minha tia.)



OBS: Observe que nos dois casos tem uma situação de posse no 1° exemplo vimos que o garoto é o possuidor e o seu pai e a posse.O mesmo ocorre no segundo .



WHERE: (onde) : Este pronome é usado quando nos referimos a um lugar físico.



Ex :The school where I studied as a boy doesn't exist anymore.

(A escola onde estudei em menino não existe mais.)



This is the park where we use to run on weekends.

(Este é o parque onde costumamos correr nos fins de semana.)



THAT : Ele pode ser usado como whom, who ou wich como vemos nos casos a seguir :



Ex:



Julia is the gril who/that ajusted the tv.

(Julia é a menina que concertou a tv)



He is the man whom/that we meet last friday.

(Este é o homem que vimos sexta passada)



This is the box which/that we found last week.

(Esta é a caixa que encontramos semana passada)
